Dick White passed away on August 14, 2020 after incurring injuries from a fall. He was 90. Dick served on the Conservancy Board for many years and was president of the Panoramic Hill Association. Dick used to say that he happily resided on Panoramic Hill, despite its risk, because of its proximity to Strawberry and Claremont canyons—and the great views provided. From his hilltop, he watched both the 1970 and 1991 Berkeley-Oakland fires. The experience motivated him organize neighborhood emergency preparedness activities in his neighborhood and to serve on the Berkeley Fire Commission and the Berkeley Disaster Council. A prolific researcher, publisher and inventor, Dick is most remembered for his work on acoustic properties at the micro-scale as professor in the electrical engineering department at UC Berkeley. His work contributed to the development of ever-smaller sensors and semiconductors. Read more here.
