This month is filled with wonderful surprises. Take a look at the miner’s lettuce we saw growing in Garber Park. Let’s go woodpeckering with Jeff Martin! Join us for a winter woodpecker walk as we learn how to look for them, how to identify them, and observe their unique foraging strategies. Then, on February 19, join the Claremont Resort & Club, in collaboration with the Garber Park Stewards, in a wonderful volunteer event on the Evergreen Lane Path. We will help clean the main steps and trails in Garber Park.
March Happenings 2025
The release of Cal Fire’s 2025 wildfire risk maps this past week has created confusion rather than clarity. Here are a few steps we can take in the meantime. Our volunteers continue their work to decrease the density of invasive, hazardous plants to help lower ladder fuels in the park. Join one of our upcoming volunteer days in the Upper Canyon and in Garber Park.
February Happenings 2025
Many plants in the upper canyon are beginning to transition into their next phase and we are seeing many catkins in bloom! To avoid a catastrophe like LA experienced (and our neighborhood experienced in the 1991 fire), we need to stay vigilant about our risks and know what we can do to lessen them. Here are some resources to help you be prepared. Measure MM $99/parcel tax will be collected and funds made available to the City of Oakland starting with the 2025-2026 property tax period. Read the Vegetation Management Plan.
September Happenings 2024
Butterflies spotted in the Canyon! Winning voter approval of Measure MM, the Wildfire Prevention Zone on November 5th is critical. Join the Garber Park Stewards as they celebrate Creek to Bay Day on September 21st. Volunteer in the Upper Canyon with your group of friends or company team. (Click to learn more)
